Abstract

This article looks to expose some points for reflection regarding the current situation in the mountain range region located in the department of Quindío (Génova, Córdoba, Pijao and Buenavista), in terms of food insecurity, which limits the right for a nutritional and adequate diet, that allows citizens a better quality of life and improves human development. Also aspects are presented concerning the current situation, in particular problems that affect the health of the most vulnerable population (the most poor), furthermore some characteristics of the agricultural population of the region, highlighting the insufficient food supply. In the region, there is a great weakness in the production chains (Dairy, meat, cold weather grown fruit and vegetables) since they don’t take advantage of the potential in the climate, the grounds and most importantly there is no contribution to increase their own food supply in order to fulfill the basic necessities of their population.
