Social constructions on genre and participation

Abstract

This document surges from reflections made along research on “participation of young women in cultural practices of juvenile groups in municipalities of La Ceja and Rionegroâ€, Antioquia, Colombia; three issues are stated; one of them is the theoretic approach to the topic of research, where the qualitative approach and its outlining are described, as a strategy to answer to specific questions and approach matters from description, analysis and later interpretation of the same, obtaining results from conditions and motivations of the subject. The research was developed under a model of qualitative research with young women participating in juvenile groups, artistic, and religious; the second part refers to social constructions produced on concepts of genre and participation, which show conditions that conceive young women participation as a complex construction, going beyond the simple search for equalitarian contexts, in this space it is basically stated a question on whether or not there are diverse conditions for integration to social and cultural participation by young women and men; likewise, some final considerations are stated, that propose to think about an equity context among men and women.
