The role of the media in the colombian democracy from a legal and policy perspective

Abstract
The Colombian government has established as a form of government in its Constitution, Democracy. This means, that ensure and respect various fundamental rights, among which are immersed certain principles such as freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom of information and freedom of the press. Additionally international normativities signed and ratified by Colombia, by which these rights are protected are identified. Therefore it is of great importance to study the influence generated by the freedom of expression, truthful and impartial information and to establish mass media in Colombia’s democracy, which are established as fundamental rights in Article twenty (20) of the Constitution. This study was performed taking into account the theoretical approaches of the authors Stein and houses. Moreover, a review of cases involving the infringement is made of the right to freedom of expression and information in Colombia during 2014, of which the Special Rapporteur was informed of the Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights Humans. In this way, we seek to relate as an example this particular law with the central category of democracy, from the theoretical framework of Stein and Casas.Downloads
