Diagnosis of competitiveness gaps wooden furniture Quindio sector through analysis of critical variables research report

Abstract

The diagnosis of the competitivenes’s breaches of the wood furniture sector in the State of Quindío (Colombia) through the analysis of critical variables, allows establishing the condition of the four stages of productive linking, through theanalysis of critical variables applied to competitiveness factors. The results of this study allow to visualize among other important aspects within the stage ofReception of Raw material, the absence of standard applications and norms withinthe process, not allowing the commercialization of all type of wood, without legalrestriction, nor treatment of quality and condition, taking this problem to thetransformation stage where it is reflected in wastes of resource and reprocesses,increase in the costs, up to other problems in the finished item. Deficiencies of technology outposts during each one of the stages, delay the competition in terms of human resource, prevents the automation of equipment, the development of new products and the improvement of the processes. As a general conclusion, it is observed that the furniture industry of the State of Quindío (Colombia), requires a union that allows the fortification of cluster related and the links,assuring the production, technological improvement and the wood supplying, from the state’s own resources, establishing regulated prices, and not depending on the supplying of the external informal markets, that do not guarantee origin nor quality and handle the price according to their convenience. Also it requires implementing programs of investment in qualification in different fields, acquisition of new equipment, improvement of processes, among others, which lead to the application of standards and technical improvement, making the forest chain of the state of Quindío more competitive.
