Abstract

This quantitative study with a descriptive scope had as main objective to identify the impact of a strategy based on the enGauge model: 21st Century Skills: Literacy in the Digital Age and on communicative strategies in the English level of tenth and eleventh graders of nine public institutions of Quindío, Colombia. At first, the pre-test allowed us to identify that the students had levels -A, A1 and A2 in the different skills (listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing). After the application of the program, a statistically significant improvement was evidenced in all the skills, concluding that with the design of activities that involved critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and other skills required for the citizen of the 21st century, it is possible to reach the levels of foreign language proficiency expected by the Ministry of National Education of Colombia.
